pearls before swine

Flash FictionSorry for this week’s lateness. Life, huh? It happens.

This feels more like the outline of a story than an actual story. Really, that’s what it is. No single idea is explored enough. Add it to the long list of beginnings I need to revisit.

The prompt for this one is, once again, from our friend over at The Prediction:

100 words maximum, excluding the title, of flash fiction or poetry using all of the three words above (‘best’,  ‘distance’ and ‘pearl’) in the genres of horror, fantasy or science fiction.

pearls before swine

Mama called them pearls of wisdom, but they weren’t real pearls. Not like the kind you make a necklace out of. More like her best advice.

Even after all these years and all this distance, I can hear her voice. She whispers her pearls to me, and I listen. She’s the reason. I don’t know why people don’t understand.

That’s what I told detective Jameson. I just want to make mama proud. I’d do anything to make her smile. Why is that hard to understand?

He made a face and called me a psycho. I wish I’d killed him, too.
