six minutes

The video below is six minutes and 36 seconds long. Short enough that it sounds inconsequental, but long enough that if I start making demands about watching it you’ll recoil, feigning righteous indignation.

“I don’t have time for this,” you’ll say, and then to punctuate the statement you’ll follow it up with some psuedo-profound cliche. For example, “There are only so many hours in the day!”

True, this objection, but no less unimaginative. So, I have a compromise.

I won’t say you have to watch it. I won’t remind you that you carve out six minutes to watch America’s Got Talent segments on YouTube all the time, even though you’ve already figured out they’re all basically the same. I won’t push. I’ll only say, with reasonable conviction, that if you make the time to watch it the rest of your day is likely to be improved. You’ll smile. You’ll feel better about your life. Your whole life. I’m not kidding. And if you’re a writer, you’ll feel better about that, too.

And in exchange for not making demands or sending you on guilt trips, you’ll just watch the damn video. Deal? Great.
