So very true. For the writer, perhaps more so.

It’s tempting to hold back. Ideas flit across my mind all the time that sound insane.

I can’t write that down, I say to myself. I’ll sound crazy! That’s too personal. Too gory. Too dark. Too twisted, too revealing, too intimate.

And then Vye gently nudges me. She says nothing, but I know what that nudge means. The story decides. My job is to write it, not intercept it. Often, I find that in writing, my own issues surface. But they inch toward resolution, too. It’s all a part of the process.

As a muse, Vye gets that. I have to be reminded.

Don’t shy away from subject matter in your stories. Don’t sway to the temptation to pull back. Your fiction will be weaker for it, and you will, too. The things we don’t say haunt us. Exercise them. Say it all.

Dex, Dex – you are a soul mate for sure. I’ve been facing this issue in my personal life for the past few weeks. And those things that were brushed under the carpet have now slowly seeped up into the daylight and it ain’t so pretty. Thank you for your honesty despite its harsh reality.
